Life Wisdom

....Die meisten Menschen lieben Wahrheit, wenn sie nicht unangenehm ist. Aber manchmal ist sie das. Dann zählen andere Faktoren, die wir brauchen, um im Leben weiterzukommen. Der Wahrheit in möglichst vielen Lebensbereichen - zB in der Ernährung, Erziehung, Ehe und Familie - näherzukommen, dazu sollen diese Lebensweisheiten beitragen.......

Most people love truth when it is not uncomfortable. But sometimes it is. Then other factors count that we need to get ahead in life. To get closer to the truth in as many areas of life as possible - e.g. in nutrition, upbringing, marriage, family and faith - these wisdoms should contribute to this.

Suggestion:

This is followed by a lot of biblical and other wisdom that I have gathered over the years and that have become personally important to me.

So that it doesn't get too much, the best thing to do is to choose a topic and a verse from it and then take it back to everyday life so that it is not forgotten again. By doing this, you and your relationships will gain from this wisdom.

Marriage - Relationship

The man owed his allegiance to the woman, and so likewise the woman to the man. 1. Cor 7: 2

Love

Love is patient and kind; she knows no envy, she does not act, she is not conceited.

It does not behave tactlessly, it does not seek its own advantage, it does not lose control, it does not hold anything against anyone (it forgives).

Love does not rejoice when injustice is done, but where truth wins it rejoices too. She endures everything, believes in every situation, always hopes, and withstands everything. 1. Cor 13: 4-7

What a gift: a married couple who love each other, who stand up for each other and support each other.

Relationships Among Fellow Human Beings

A sincere answer is a sign of real friendship. Proverbs 24:26

Those who show compassion and help the poor receive rich blessings. Proverbs 22: 6

Because injustice will prevail, love will grow cold in many. Matthew 24:12

Where there are many people there is also a lot of challenge. But those who think and feel FOR their fellow human beings have also accepted themselves. Wonderful!

Relationship With Jesus

So God loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, so that all who believe in him would not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

The Lord is near to all who call on him; all who sincerely call him. Psalm 145: 18

He fulfills the longings and desires of those who are in awe of him; He hears when you scream for help and save you. Psalm 145: 19

I have the Lord always before my eyes; because he's on my right, I don't waver. Psalm 16: 8

But HE is wounded for our iniquity and bruised for our sin. The punishment is on HIM that we may have peace, and through his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53: 5

For I know well what thoughts I have about you, says the Lord. Thoughts of frustration, not sorrow. That I give you a future and hope. Jeremiah 29:11

JESUS ​​had a heart for his fellow human beings and their needs. Nobody overlooked him. He wants to help ALL people. Wonderful.

Come to me, all of you who are troublesome and burdensome; I want to refresh you. Take up my yoke and learn from me; for I am meek and humble in heart; so you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is gentle and my burden is light. Matthew 11: 28-30

Jesus says: I came so that they might have life in abundance. John 10:10

As the Father loved me, so I loved you. Stay in my love John 15: 9

This is my command that you love one another, just as I love you. John 15:12

This woman learned a lot from Jesus. She learned what forgiveness really is. Jesus' words “Sin no more!” has certainly given her strength to align her lifestyle with Jesus. Thank God.

Nobody has greater love than that he gives up his life for his friends. Joh 15:13

You are my friends if you do what I tell you. John 15:14

But we know that all things serve for the best of those who love God, those who are purpose called. Romans 8:28

Love is the fulfillment of the law. And because we know that the hour has come, let's get up from sleep. Romans 13: 10-11

It is part of our prerogative to possibly experience JESUS ​​second coming in person! Wouldn't that be sensational! O Lord, have mercy on us. We look forward to your appearance in the clouds soon.

Three Things We Need

One might think money must be one of them, right? But we’re not talking about external, but internal values. These three things are more important than anything else because they can produce everything else we need!!

Understanding Cause and Effect

Our post-modern lifestyle does not lend itself to reflection. As we unlearn the art of reflecting on our daily lives, we see less and less behind the curtain. Who really thinks about the reasons why we do certain things and don’t do others? Who knows his or her true motives?

There are various levels of understanding. What we see and experience is the top level. The background, motives and reasoning for what happens are below the surface and can also be divided into separate levels.

Example:  A child is crying. Why? He is crying because his little brother got something and he didn’t. Envy. What causes envy? This question leads to the next level, a bit deeper. When children don’t feel loved, that is, when they feel disadvantaged. Envy and jealousy are an automatic reaction, a visible effect, which also has a deeper cause.

The next question: What is the deeper cause of this jealousy? As we have discussed in earlier blogs, children don’t feel loved when their love tanks are insufficiently filled. When this situation becomes chronic, patterns in behavior are formed. But there are also reasons why children’s love tanks don’t get filled. Perhaps it is because their mothers’ love tanks are running low and they don’t have the resources with which to fill their children’s needs. So the next question would be: How can one make up for the deficit in one’s own love tank when the cause for this deficit lies in one’s own childhood? Is there a remedy for people who didn’t receive enough love from their parents (even though they may have done their best and might not even be aware of a problem)?

In the past, parents didn’t know anything about the Five Love Languages (BLOG) as it is possible to know today. So it’s no wonder __ . And the questions go on.

The three most important things a person needs to develop a high level of quality of life are all located in the deeper levels of consciousness. Because these levels are so deep, they are the basis for and strongly influence the development of all higher levels.

Sometimes it’s good to take time to think about life and what is actually going on in my own life. Why do I work and play so hard that my health is compromised? How much sense does that make? What is important in life? These are questions we want to consider in this blog.

Let’s begin with

1. Humility

Definition & Effect

Wiki: The term "humility" comes from the Latin word humilitas, a noun related to the adjective humilis, which may be translated as "humble", but also as "grounded", or "from the earth", since it derives from humus (earth).

The word "humble" may be related to feudal England where the lowest cuts of meat, or 'umbles', that is to say whatever was left over when the upper classes had taken their parts, were provided to the lowest class of citizen. The term 'humble pie,' meaning to exist in a lowly station, may derive from this definition.“

Humble people recognize and freely accept the fact that some things are higher and unreachable for them. They do not consider themselves to be the standard by which all others are measured. They realize they are not gods.

There is a notable difference between an inner attitude of humility as opposed to the outward expression thereof, which could simply be a deceptive façade. Ideally, these two would coincide. However, appearances can be deceiving. A person who appears to be humble could actually be proud inside: the exhibition of humility is a sure indication of pride. On the other hand, a truly humble person may appear proud in the eyes of others.

Because our loving God does not force us to obey, His ability to save humanity is dependent on each individual’s choice, either for humility or pride. Only the path of humility leads to God and His eternal kingdom, thus making it an extremely important virtue for Christians.

In his book, The Art of Loving, Erich Fromm explains humility as an emotional attitude, governed by reason and objectivity, which is needed in order to overcome one’s own selfishness. (See BLOG on Narcissism.)

In German, the word ‘humility’ is closely related to the word ‘courage’. It is the courage to serve others, the courage to be different, the courage to submit to higher, divine principles. It is diametrically opposed to pride.

Humble people cause fewer problems than the proud; they have a natural ability to deal constructively with conflicts. Humility is fertile soil for the development of emotional intelligence (BLOG).

Maybe you have felt it too: a breathtaking panorama in nature gave you a sense of humility. How could such sensational complexity in the macro- and microcosms have developed by chance? What laws had to work together in order to produce such wonders? WOW !! That is leading us to the next topic: TRUTH.

2. Truth

Do you love the truth? There is great benefit in loving truth, but the challenges are also many, not only to discover truth, but also to deal wisely therewith.

Today, in the era of fake news, it is becoming increasingly difficult to differentiate between truth and deception. Advertising is a prime example.

Example: Advertising

The goal of advertising is to create positive feelings in us, which will lead to the purchase of a product. Depth psychology does a fantastic job in this area. It helps businesses to get their products in the hands of the people. This is the basis for our consumer society.

In order not to become a victim of this system, we must have an alert spirit of discernment, and a love for truth. These are tools, which will help us, as far as possible, to recognize realities behind any given subject. As stated, this is not an easy task. It is much easier to go with the flow of culture and place our faith entirely in the system, or at least to accept it well enough to find one’s way through the maze of life with no major controversies.

FAKE NEWS dulls our sensibility to truth. We are used to being lied to. There is almost nothing left on which we can depend. In spite of this sad situation, life goes on. In this way, we don’t realize how this constant barrage of deception lulls us to sleep, and our mental, physical and emotional health is compromised.

Example: Nutrition

In the case of nutrition, we usually don’t get the bill until 15 – 30 years later: heart attack, osteoporosis and/or cancer are often the result of a lack of interest in the truth about healthy nutrition. Many people, for example, still believe the advertising industry’s fairytale that cows’ milk is healthy and that “Every body needs milk!” Huge deception! Business and Politics

People who want to find out the truth in our postmodern world meet with extreme challenges. Neither the world of business nor that of politics is interested in strengthening our frontal lobes or encouraging deep thoughts and critical thinking. This would cause huge financial losses and uncomfortable political changes.  (FRONTAL LOBE)

The situation is not equally tragic in every nation, but the question remains: Why in many countries is truth systematically thwarted, thereby torpedoing any basic attempts at solving existing problems? The truth can make us free!

Appeal

As long as children are still unspoiled, they love truth. Why shouldn’t we hold on to that trait? Is it because it costs too much? Could it cost us a bit of dignity, money or maybe our reputations? On the other hand, what could we gain if we were to consciously strive for the truth? It could lead to healthier self-esteem, authenticity and credibility, a true sense of brotherhood in society, justice, order and an amazing quality of life.

3. Love

A Letter from ALBERT Einstein to His Daughter Lieserl

Although there are justifiable doubts that the following letter was actually penned by Einstein, there is still a certain geniality concealed within. I believe it is worth contemplation.

Here are some excerpts from the original letter:

These brilliant thoughts point to a phenomenon, which is largely neglected in the world today. We have no time for the most important ingredient in life – true love. We are unwilling to invest our time and energy in it. Thus, we miss out on the amazing potential that lies therein. This is the one ingredient that would make life truly worth living.

Whoever has taken the opportunity to get to know CHRIST personally, has found the source of TRUE LOVE. It is amazing to see the dimensions that JESUS is showing us human in HIM going to the cross for you and me !!

7 Steps to Better Quality of Life

Stress prevention is an important habit of people who enjoy a high quality of life. At times we reduce stress in some areas, but somehow before long, we fall right back into it. Almost automatically and unnoticeably, activities and responsibilities pile up until we find ourselves back in the stress mill. It is therefore a great strategy to practice systematic stress prevention !

Stress prevention is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle. As you look around at others, you may notice that those who practice the following points in their lifestyles do not generally suffer with too much stress.

1. Rest and Relaxation

Consciously take time for breaks. We often underestimate the vital need for regular breaks. It´s not enough to just make an exception now and then like taking time for lunch instead of working through your lunch break. If we don’t give ourselves regular breaks, we will soon be suffering under achievement stress.

Implementing methods of relaxation is not only helpful when one is already stressed. We should learn to integrate techniques of relaxation into our everyday lives.

Instead of going out to eat with friends, stay in your office and do some systematic relaxation. Or you could even do it at other times, for example, every hour you could take a few minutes to rest and stretch and enjoy some relaxing music. If you don’t want to do it in public at the office, you could disappear into the restroom for a few minutes and relax there. After all, it IS the RESTROOM. More on this topic in the following BLOG.

2. Enough Good Sleep

It is said that 6-8 hours of sleep gives a person the highest life expectancy. More or less than that on a regular basis and over a prolonged period of time is a great stress on the body. When one’s quality of sleep is constantly poor, it can cause obesity and loss of muscle mass.

Melatonin and Free Radicals

The hormone melatonin is produced in the brain while we are sleeping. It is one of the antioxidants in the body and works like a magnet for the health-damaging molecules known as free radicals. These attack the genetic substance (genome) in the cell and can produce carcinogenic mutations. Melatonin is made from serotonin, the sunshine feel-good hormone, which means if you spend enough time in the sun, you’ll sleep better, healthier and more deeply. More on this topic in the following BLOG.

3. Healthy Nutrition

This is a subject that is often discussed but less often practiced. When appetite and reason disagree, appetite often wins. Most people know that natural products are healthy and refined products with innumerable ingredients can, sooner or later, bring about challenges to our health. Whole grain products, organic fruits and vegetables are beneficial, while meat and other animal products on today’s market can, unfortunately, be detrimental.

Be careful of dangerous substances: caffeine, theobromine (cacao), nicotine and alcohol, which influence the brain so negatively that with them successful stress management is nearly impossible. (See BLOG)

We also know that our bodies need a lot of water every day. Our brain functions best at 85% water, but many heads have to survive on much less! For this reason, we are recommended to drink enough pure, clean water to produce clear urine twice daily.  For more on that subject, see BLOG.

4. Exercise is the Answer

We all know that physical exercise is good for us, but very few are really clear on how absolutely vital it isfor our health. Exercise is a great stress preventer and not only that, but those who exercise a lot, live longer. Many people excuse themselves with, “I just don’t have time for that!” or „I’m too old!“ or „I’m too lazy,“ or "I’m alone." Don’t let these arguments stop you from exercising. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Lack of exercise can cause sickness and emotional disturbances, insomnia, constipation, cardiovascular disease, rheumatism, metabolic challenges and lack of oxygen, not to mention diabetes, osteoporosis, cancer and last, but not least, susceptibility to stress.

Benefits of Exercise

Exercise regulates blood pressure and protects and strengthens the heart and blood vessels. Better circulation means oxygen levels are higher, which facilitates clearer thought processes, sounder sleep and quicker recovery from sickness. 5. Test Goals and Decisions

Every decision we make influences our lives. Every person makes hundreds of decisions daily! Our decisions are about lifestyle, work, friends, environment, future and relationships. Smoking, drinking, taking drugs, having sex without the proper protection, exercising daily, drinking enough water, staying mentally fit and improving our knowledge are also all matters requiring decisions.

Every decision you make has an influence on your life & health.

The sum of all our decisions determines our quality of life.

For this reason, all our decisions, great or small, should be made thoughtfully, intelligently and consciously. Just as Paul Watzlawick said: "One cannot not communicate,“ we can also say, "We cannot not decide!“

Keep the Direction

If the meaning of life is to realize one’s values, we are challenged to think about what they actually are. For many people, enjoyment is the highest value in life. Gratification of desire is their daily goal. I’m not sure how valuable that is. On the other hand, there are many values worth working and fighting for, like our spouses, children, friends, work, people in need, love and truth.

Example: A Christian’s goal is to live forever when this earthly life is over.

This is a goal that requires thought. Namely, the question must be answered, "How do I get to heaven?" If you ask five people that question, you will surely receive seven answers. Very risky! How shall we know which is right? It seems the goal is too serious to flip a coin and let chance make the decision. In my humble opinion, the answer is found in the Bible, but unfortunately, most believers follow tradition, in the mindset of “It’s what my parents believed.” That is also very risky! Many opinions are either  partially or completely unbiblical! We have to study for ourselves and not depend on the opinions of others. It saddens me to think of all the people who have decided to take a wrong path because they haven’t discovered the Bible as the only infallible source of truth.

A person who knows where he or she wants to go in life has the great advantage that he or she can align all decisions and priorities accordingly. Those who are driven by the moment (extrinsically motivated) will sooner or later fall prey to the system.

6. Set Priorities

Depending on the goals we choose, we can and must set priorities in order to reach them. Priorities can affect our choices in relationships, free time and employment.

Suggestions for Healthy Priorities:

Relationships are important, but they can also cause stress. When stressful situations arise in the family, it is important to find good solutions to improve the quality of our relationships. If there’s trouble on the job, it may also be possible to solve. However, if no solution can be found (some people just don’t want to change), a change of job may be the best option.

Lifestyle: As we saw above, lifestyle is a huge factor in our happiness. Prioritizing physical, emotional and mental health is paramount. Good nutrition, getting enough exercise in the out-of-doors, sunlight and rest are all factors that can help make this priority a reality.

The Meaning of Life: People who have found the meaning of life know where they are going. They have direction. A life without goals can be chaotic and even pointless. Those who recognize love for others and love for God as meaningful are generally highly motivated and positive toward life´s questions and challenges. They tend to improve themselves on all levels and progress in wisdom and maturity.

7. Making Knowledge Practical

After reading all these steps, we know quite a bit, don’t we? In our society, so much knowledge is at our fingertips, there should actually not be any unsolved problems. We have the solutions: we have the technology. The step we really need to take is that of putting our knowledge into practice and making it a reality in our lives. Knowledge without action is worthless.

To achieve that, you need quiet, clear moments to put your decisions and priorities into action. You need to make a plan and possibly set some sub-goals. Some people make notes and set dates for themselves, others tell their loved ones of their decisions and goals, or may invite a friend or spouse to help or join them in their activities. This may include doing sports or taking a class together.

Achtung: We all have a tendency to take the path of least resistance. Many are not motivated to take action because of the effort involved. However, if nothing changes, nothing changes. We need to find something we can change. On the other hand, we should not overdo it; too many sudden changes at once can be overwhelming.

The best way is not to OVER- or UNDER- challenge ourselves, but to give ourselves a reasonable challenge. That is my heart’s desire for you!

One often hears the explanation that this predisposition already exists in my family. The good news: we are not a puppet of biology! Even when we are full of toxic memories and live in such an environment, our brain can actually be changed. An incredible feat that has been dubbed 'neuroplasticity'.

They say we can change our toxic thoughts in 4 days and replace them with new ones in 3 weeks!

Thoughts can be measured, they need space, they change, grow, enlarge or shrink, and they adapt. The result is that you are represented by your thoughts! Toxic thoughts make us toxic too. Good thoughts have positive effects.

Positive and negative thoughts go through the same processes in the brain. Only the chemical substances change their structure accordingly.

If we want to detoxify our thought life, then we have to send a toxic thought through a set sequence again.

What does this order look like?

1. The brain collects electrical impulses

These impulses are collected through our five senses in order to find out their meaning. At the beginning of a thought it is possible to decide between good and bad impulses. Do I accept the thought or do I reject it!

First, a thought reaches the thalamus (transmitter control center), where most of the cerebral nerves meet. It connects the brain to the body and the body to the brain.

The thought goes from the thalamus to the cerebral cortex (outer part), where it is connected with already existing thoughts. This activates our inner attitude towards thoughts. This will influence our decision. If the memory is positive, then pleasant feelings are produced.

On a worry-laden attitude, stress hormones are sent to the main gland (pituitary gland), which warns the trillion cells in our body of a threat. The body adjusts to protection. This inhibits important further developing thoughts. But once we have made the habit of not worrying, the hypothalamus will produce feelings of peace.

What can we do at this stage?

We can choose to reject or allow the current thoughts and incoming information. In the latter case, they will sink into our mind and subconscious and form the basis of who we are as a person.

The amygdala (our joy and fear center) and the hippocampus (responsible for memory and motivation) help us make good decisions. The amygdala is the driver that wants to protect us from threats. The thalamus will warn you if necessary. In the end she gives the OK or NOK.

The amygdala also has connections to the frontal lobe, which controls our reasoning and decisions, and our analyzing and planning. This gives our developed reason the chance to have a say.

At this moment there is an opportunity to say:

"I choose NOT to think about this thing anymore."

This sends the thoughts away, or they simply disappear.

2. Reflecting on thoughts

Thanks to neuroscience, we now know that we don't have to allow any thought to control us!

The information remains in the hippocampus for about 24-48 hours and is continuously processed there. The basal forebrain is also included. Change now means that the thought is either retained, reinforced, or parts or the whole thought are adapted. It is NOT possible for parts to sink back into the subconscious without having been changed. This shows our potential, but also our responsibility.

The stronger we think, the more change we can bring about.

When we say: 'I can't do that!' then that supports our inability.

When we say: "I can do that!" then the whole body aligns itself with it.

Neuroplasticity means that through our thinking, important neurotransmitters (chemical messenger substances that transmit electrical impulses) - especially serotonin - cause changes deep inside the cell and thus also the genes (epigenetics says hello).

Research shows that mental training in terms of imagination, visualization, deep thinking and reflection, triggers the same physical change in the brain as if one had actually carried out these imagined processes in practice.

The resulting thoughts are consolidated, stabilized and accessible at any time. Nothing stands in the way of a high level of competence. This can apply in both the positive and negative directions with corresponding consequences.

Repetition and training are necessary in order for protein synthesis to consolidate, stabilize and participate in us.

3. Write down thoughts

As you have probably already experienced yourself, the process of writing down consolidates memory and clarity and helps you think about it further. The visualization of thoughts and feelings promotes these processes.

The basal ganglia - nerve associations that correlate with the cerebral cortex, the hippocampus, and the frontal lobe - have the important task of transforming thoughts and emotions into immediate action in thinking and LEARNING. So they help us write down the information we just understood.

The way we write them down is important.

Everyone is encouraged to create a thought journal with creative expression. Creative can mean: drawing free of straight lines, pictures or diagrams, allowing colors and structures to flow in. Create a MINDMAP, so to speak, where associative thoughts can be linked.

4. Rethink thoughts

Thoughts can be transformed more easily the more consciously they are perceived.

Every time we ponder a thought and we control it with our minds, we can influence it as well. So it is in our power of free will whether we want to create new circuits and initiate a detoxification process.

What we think and feel about ourselves, what about our partner, our parents, friends and neighbors can all be examined and redefined.

We usually cannot control our circumstances, but we can determine how we react to them.

5. Implement thoughts

This last step quickly shows whether the previous steps were carried out correctly. This is because the practical steps are carried out according to the thought. Application steps. With these steps we have built a secure foundation for change, health and quality of life.

This overcoming step helps to recognize whether something is true or not. It shows whether theory and practice match. In doing so, it promotes integrity and makes us strong.

3 activities that promote the healing process

Time of silence:

Studies show that people who pray and read the Bible every day are more likely to have positive thoughts. Spending time in nature also encourages good thoughts.

Nutrition:

Nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and B vitamins lift our mood. They stabilize the blood sugar level and improve the functioning of neurotransmitters and nerves. Since the brain consists of up to 85% water, it consumes accordingly, which invites us to 'refill'. (at least 1.5 liters of water / day)

Move:

Physical exercise releases beta-endorphins, which create a sense of well-being in us and dispel tension and stress. It trains the will and promotes blood circulation with all the resulting benefits.

In summary

t can be said that the amygdala gives input and informs the mind (frontal lobe) about the emotions (roughly in a ratio of 9: 1, ie 9 times more often than it receives information from the frontal lobe). The thalamus and hypothalamus provide input regarding motivation. The memory networks provide information about memories that have already been stored. The central switching point mixes and combines everything. The heart also gets involved and supports the decision-making processes.

Theological Aspects

If the Bible says:

  • We should look to HIM so that HIM influences our thoughts (2 Cor 3:18)

then it looks like that our Creator knows exactly how important all this is and that, as soon as we follow it, we live in a 'different', better world. Isn't that sensational!

And what I particularly like is that HE does not leave us alone in our endeavors, but supports us in a highly active manner, the more we get involved with HIM.

He would like to be our 'fixed star' who shows us the direction in every situation in life.

Faith, as defined in Hebrews 11:1, takes on a new depth when one knows that just thinking deeply about an action can equal the actual action. The same parts of the brain are addressed.
