Our health, happiness and wellbeing are not a product of chance, and are much less a product of our genetics than we might think. They are, rather, the result of various controllable factors and principles. The good news here is: You can actually significantly influence your own health!
NEWSTART Plus® is a modern, internationally known, scientifically proven, holistically based health concept. NEWSTART Plus® is an acronym, in which each of the 12 letters stands for a principle that has a decisive influence on our health, happiness and quality of life.
The most powerful results are achieved when all 12 principles are implemented together.
All the elements together give NEWSTART Plus® its holistic balance. It is an invitation for each of us to make a new start and discover a more positive life. You won’t want to miss it!
As mentioned, the NEW and START components have been treated in the last two blogs. This one deals with the points in Plus.
Every decision made or avoided has an influence on our lives and health.
The quality of our lives, happiness and well-being are all a result of our decisions. For this reason we should make all our decisions, great and small, with great care and wisdom.
The Joy in Decision Making
Every day we make about 200 conscious decisions. What to eat, how much to work, how and with whom to spend our free time, whether to exercise, smoke, or drink alcohol, what and how much media to consume, what to do to stay mentally fit: all these decisions define who we are.
On what do we base our decisions? Are they a true reflection of what is important to us?
What are key points for you? What are the values that define your life?
Choose your three highest priorities from the following list and think about why you chose them: Family, work, money, looks, status, influence, power, honor, recognition, dominance, relaxation, comfort, love? What do you take into consideration when setting priorities?

«You and your optimism! Easy for you to say!»
Is optimism just positive talk? A passive, fair-weather attitude? A way of filtering out negative facts?
An optimist sees the world realistically, but chooses to believe that good will prevail, in spite of obvious and towering obstacles. He or she decides to throw in his or her lot with and work on the side of good. In so doing, seemingly impossible feats suddenly become possible.
Optimist or Pessimist?
Is your glass half full or half empty? Scientific research shows that people who are interested in happiness, high quality of life and a long, fulfilled life would do well to decide to live life optimistically.
Can I just DECIDE to be optimistic? Optimists and pessimists differ mostly in their thought patterns, or in the way they evaluate circumstances and people.
Our thoughts influence our emotions and our emotions influence our health. Negative thoughts can literally make us sick. Check out the blog on toxic thinking. LINK
Pessimism is a learned attitude and has its roots in conditioned helplessness. Pessimists generally believe that uncomfortable situations are absolute, long-term and part of one’s personal destiny/fate. Optimists, on the other hand, believe circumstances to be temporary, short-term and impersonal.

Children have the wonderful ability to be themselves: refreshingly honest, unstilted and authentic. We adults tend to adjust our behavior to society and often lose our integrity in the process. Quite sad!
Said and Done
Integrity means being honest with yourself and others, and striving for wholeness in every area of life. In order to keep one’s integrity intact, one must protect oneself from all forms of exploitation and remain independent of others and their philosophies (advertising, idols and ideologies). Integrity strives to maintain authenticity, honesty and autonomy.
"I do what I believe."
It’s nice to live with people who are genuine. You can depend on them. They are in harmony with themselves and others. They allow others to complement them without giving up their own identities. "What’s IN the bottle is the same as what’s written ON the bottle." Integrity breeds trust, quality relationships and health.
Can you remember meeting a person like that? How would you describe him or her?

Next to each other. With each other. For each other.
Epidemiological studies show that people with stable social networks are more content, are healthier and live longer than the socially isolated. People who have regular social contact with family and friends are generally physically and emotionally healthier than those who are not thus privileged.
The social support of family is recognized as one of the most important factors for well-being and health. This support is especially important in challenging situations. Have you ever experienced it?
Maintaining Relationships
The moment we arrive in the world, we are dependent. No one can make it alone. Not one.
People are relational beings, dependent on each other. We are often not aware of this and allow our relationships to become more and more anonymous. When you speak to your boss, do you see a person or a function? People are becoming more and more interchangeable, replaceable.
Many people live alone, even feeling lonely in a crowd. Research is clear. Healthy relationships influence the quality and length of our lives: they strengthen our health and generally make our lives worth living. Healthy relationships are not the product of coincidence. They require work and care. This is a skill that can be learned. That’s the reason for this blog!
True love, the highest form in relationships, doesn’t care just for itself, but for others. People who follow this motto find themselves richly blessed, because to give is to live.
"Shared joy is double joy," my aunt always used to say. True happiness is found in serving others. Have you noticed?
